However, on the 16” vs 20” question, go 20” because the 16” with Mid-Length gas has been problematic. I had to switch the buffer spring to an M4 spring for it to be reliable on gas setting 2.

Left= SFAR 308 16” next to M5 308 18”. Notice M5 “heavy duty everything”, I guess this is where the 2.4 lbs comes from! Much bigger bolt and upper/lower and barrel. Left to right (standard ar15 BCG, middle=SFAR, right=AR10 BCG. Note length of ar and SFAR are the same/similar. The Ruger SFAR is not really anything new. POF did the same thing with the Rogue, and DPMS did the same thing even before that with the DPMS Gen 2. The added handguard compatibility with an AR-15 is nice, but no, the AR10 is far from dead. The large frame AR may not have a "standard", but there is a TON of aftermarket for LR308/SR25.

The sfar is really a niche AR10. If you want something lightweight but possibly more fragile and higher recoil then that’s for you. Remember Ruger made this specifically to make it more AR15 like and much lighter. I haven’t shot a PSA AR10, but I do have a PSA AR15.
