A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. Bill Bryson's works are fantastic. He makes rather cumbersome history more accessible just by relating things to everyday life. This is a brilliant book - it points out how complex and amazing science is, and yet how much we don't really know. However there is a mix up at the hospital. So the baby is raised by an average Christian family and he starts to discover his power. The best part of the book is the relationship between the two main characters: The Demon and The Angel.
