11756 posts · Joined 2009. #2 · Jun 11, 2009. Normally, you can start in gear if the clutch is pulled in. There is a switch on the clutch handle that looks after this. Could be out of adjustment, dirty, no good, etc. Give it a looksee. Post back with findings.
I am sure Kawasaki will get their fuel managment sorted out. Don't replace your lash adjusters, fix them. I have 05 Vulcan 2000. At 60,000 miles my adjusters started getting noisy. Oil change helped for awhile. Auto parts oil additives helped for awhile. Drill the switch hole with a 1 3/4" hole saw and use a sanding drum in a drill press or handheld drill to enlarge to 1 29/32". Now drill the 2 light holes (oil and temp) with a 5/8" bit.

Oil leaks. A common problem with the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 is oil leaks, which happen when oil enters the air intake system. I have a 2008 Vulcan 500 ltd. As far as preformance wise everything is still stock. It has roughly 1400 miles on it and has been service and well maintained. Not a problem at all, until today. I went to run into town and made it aprox 2 miles before it started sputtering like it was out of gas and lost all throttle power.

The only maintenance required on the shaft is the rear spline lubrication with moly60 lube, easy to do and not often. It's one fast bike.
Jun 27, 2015 · at rest, ignition off = should above 12, usually 12.5. at rest, ignition on = should be a small drop, usually 12. while to starter switch is operating and the engine is turning and before the engine fires up = MUST be more than 10.5. If the voltage is 10.5 or lower, the ecu will NOT fire the plugs, EVER. Shoud be at least 12.6 v. Start the bike, rev it to 3,000+ rpm and again check the voltage across the battery posts. You should see a minimum of 13.5 v and would like to see 14.0 - 14.5 v but your new battery will need time to fully charge unless you took it home and charged it, which is a good thing to do.
