John deere 4020 problems.

Hard Shifting 4020. I have a 1964 4020D with a Syncro-Range transmission. The prob is I am have a lot of grinding of the gears when shifting while stopped with the clutch pedal fully depressed. I have a John Deere 4020 Diesel that developed a miss. The first step to cure miss was to remove the pencil injectors and have them tested. All cracked/popped adequately, however, 2 of the injectors test pattern was not real good if pressure was added slowly so I replaced them. Make sure the surfaces are clean and I roughed them up with some really coarse sandpaper so that the JB weld had something to bite. I have had them on for 6 months and so far so good. C.The 4010 and VERY early (IIRC, pre-'65) 4020 tractors DO have a 3rd reverse. The later early models and on only have 2 reverse gears that are sped up. The the early ones, 1st reverse is the same speed as 3rd forward, 2nd reverse is like 5th and 3rd reverse is like 7th. So, 3rd reverse is 12mph. Went from a quad-range to powershift. When new the 4640 could not do the work of the 4630. After a year we found there was a program to redo the torque capsule in the injection pump. Deere had the wrong-headed idea that a torgue curve should be flat and accomplished it by taking off high end governor response.

If it is a console tractor and has 2 remotes you will have to machine the manifold to clear the bottom remote.There is just a little more magic you will have to do but not much. Aug 29, 2020 · Owner replaced generator with alternator because the 4020 is indeed a hoss. Designed to run on row crops all day at full speed. Off and on hay use would not keep the batteries charged. Alternator supposed to charge better at slower speeds and shorter run times. At least that is why the owner said he swapped it out.

Sorry but I think you'll need to remove RS valve housing to resolve the 3 pt problem. 1st I'll suggest to acquire a 5000# gauge and check stand-by pressure. If stand-by pressure isn't above 1700 psi the priority valve would be blocking pressure oil to 3 pt. Stand-by pressure should be 2250 psi.I have a '67 4020.
