On PC the tether has a slider, the default is 1.0 which is about 200m which is awful, and the slider goes up to 3.0, which is about 700m which is usually alright but if the host dies everyone ends up being teleported to them which can really suck. I increased my Non-Dedicated Host Tether Distance to 5.0 was the max my computer with 4 people on it could manage. Try typing a higher number in there then trying the session again, that number multipilies the base value of 200m I think. Yes, 200m is the base.
