Hello to all, Even though the title might bring a lot confusion I always wanted to bring this topic to discussion. The common knowledge is that serracenia and all North American pitcher plants require some type of dormancy to follow the natural rhythms of growth, flowering, seed, dormancy only to have the cycle repeat itself year after year.

Sarracenia. Dormancy. The question of whether Sarracenia need cold weather and/or short days during winter to trigger dormancy has been discussed on this forum. Some have postulated that Sarracenia would eventually die under continually warm conditions. Much of the discussion has been based on theory.

Prefers rich soil: Acidic / Boggy. Sarracenias, commonly known as pitcher plants, are carnivorous plants mainly from North America. They bear flowers that grow singly on tall leafless stalks and most have long tubular 'pitchers'. Inside these pitchers is a well of digestive fluid that breaks down prey, which is then absorbed by the plant.

Dying pitchers at the base are a symptom of rhizome and root rot. This can be caused by any number of fungal or bacterial infections, and is often due to overly hot, wet, and stagnant conditions. Heat is a particularly severe problem for cobra lilies (not so much for Sarracenia); their roots have very low tolerance for high temperatures. These impacts, partially summarized in Mellichamp (2008), are as follows: Sarracenia ×readii and S. ×casei are hybrids involving S. alabamensis subsp. wherryi as one parent. Sarracenia ×exornata was based upon a plant from Theodore, Alabama. Therefore the name designates a plant with Sarracenia alata × rosea ancestry. Are you facing technical issues with your HP device?
