I tried this once on my 2014 Crosstrek. Do not recommend. I live in Michigan and it was the dead of winter. Started the car and then locked it with the manual lock. Walked away. Came back about ten minutes later and the fob would not unlock the door, and the manual key would not either. I assume the manual key is somehow electronic as well.

Recently started throwing P2764 codes, which the manual says is due to the "Lock-Up" solenoid. Tested the resistance, which was indeed out of spec. The vehicle would jerk on the shifting emulation and go into "limp mode". I discovered that Subaru does not sell the solenoids separately, and was quoted $750 for a replacement valve body.That can happen with any car that has an ignition based steering lock out. You'll notice the wheel will not move at all in one direction but will move a little in the other direction. Just move the wheel a little away from the tight side. That will take the pressure off and allow the key to turn. Whatever you do, don't use force to turn the key.One related question: There seem to be competing suggestions for how to disable the key FOB. The video above shows (at 4:10) holding LOCK and pressing UNLOCK twice.
