Infantry units without a shield suck. So I have noticed that enemies use more projectiles (or at least it seems to be the case) in bannerlords. All my infantry units that lack shield are just cannon fodder even when I place them behind shielded infantry and will most likely die to projectiles, it seems that the AI is smart enough to focus them ...

Legionairies are meant to set the standard for "Heavy Infantry" in Bannerlord, IMO, both according to "canon" as well as practical effect. I don't think there's a good "versus" comparison on paper. I have done some testing recently and turns out battanians have the worst shield infantry, sturgia is right after with axemen doing better than spearmen, then aserai and khuzaits roughly on the same level, vlandia and finally empire with their leggionaries being the strongest shield infantry unit. if you include dismounted t6 cavalry in the mix ...Vlandian Pikemen are really lousy and outclassed by Vlandian Sergeants. If you craft "the best" army you can f1-f3 and win even battles with practically 0 losses without thinking, isn't a great time outside of maybe your first playthrough. For example, I've been running an infantry only Vlandia campaign with no bowman allowed, only ranged units are crossbows.
