Reed valves are just under the intake manifold. I recommend you look around for the real cause of the powdered aluminum in the airbox.

My best guess is the high speed charge coil in the stator. It looks like it's getting fuel, but not firing above a certain RPM. A stuck float needle won't let it idle. A leaking float needle won't let it idle. A leaking float needle won't be noticed at high speed. They basically stand open at WOT anyway.

Re: My Merc BlackMax 150 XR2 won't start. Why? If your fuel tank is permanent mounted in the boat, chances are it is 18 gal or more. Your adding 6 gal of fuel with a quart of oil made roughly a 25:1 mix. Add that fat mixture to another 12 gal of 50:1 might average out to about 37:1 total.

Marine Mechanic: Scott. Hello tollef, your trim gauge needs a brown/white stripe wire from the motor, check the gauge has that connected and the connection is snug/not corroded and sound. chances are its the wire not the gauge. If the wire checks ok I can advise how to test the gauge. Scott.

XR6 is 2.5l. They are all strong 150's. XR2 and XR4 came with 4 1/4 in lowers. XR6 came with either 4 1/4 or 4 3/4 in lower. I've got a Mercury that just won't go!
