Mercury 60 hp bigfoot problems.

#1. I have recently purchased a 2007 Mercury 60 hp 4-stroke EFI, and it is unable to get over 4000rpm - although out of gear it can easily get to 6000. I know that it has some kind of protection system, perhaps this has triggered? How best to untrigger this? I have a 2001 60 HP 4 stroke 4 cylinder that is carbureted. On the water hose it runs fine idle on through close to 6K rpm, put it gear on the hose runs fine idle to almost 6K. At the lake idles fine, in 5mph zone its fine, after 3K rpm it bogs and wants to stall. If I take it out of gear and use the high idle lever it will rev and idle just fine.

It start quickly and work well. Then it begin to be a little erratic at idle, but still ok. It run very well above 2000 rpms, but if you stay between 1000 and 2000 for a while it begin to loose power and stall. I changed the IAC valve but the problem persist. Could it be the MAP or TPS.

There is a reason the new Mercury 115 Pro XS 4 stroke has a "command thrust" gearbox and not the standard. Having been there and done that, the standard gearbox, along with far less drag, prop area etc is the better option, especially in such a low hp, low torque engine.
