Most spikes dont quite make contact with the floor you are standing on but two of them should. It used to be easy to get out of the core. Just let yourself suffocate to death, and you spawn back at your base. But now that is impossible. You'd have to run outside of the main core before you can suffocate.

Basically if you get the third drill head, nothing will ever slow you down :) the moons are very easy to get to the cores with as their physical size is much smaller, and the full sized planets take longer to get to because they're bigger, but sylva is a good indication of how long the full sized planets take.

So I guess the glitch is sort of the node being able to be created with less than 3 of the plugs having power running to them while unlocking the gateway. Not sure if this is the same problem other people had, but maybe it can help others unlock the planets core. Hope this helps. #12.
