My JM Marlin has a very roomy barrel and prefers .431" or .432" cast slugs. Both shoot any brand of jacketed, .429"-.4295"-.430" just fine. I've killed a lot of animals with my 1894's. The 1 in 38" twist fear is an overblown phobia, sometimes pushed by people that never shot an 1894. ... If I shoot 3 shot groups I'm very pleased with my 1894P ...I hate to do it but something must move. 1894P Marlin 44 mag. But its like comparing two whole different designs. The when the 1894 Win was birthed, it was designed for the mid length rounds, 30 30 etc, same as the 1893 Marlin. The 1894 Marlin of course was designed for the short now near obsolete rounds like the 25 20 and similar length rounds. 1894p was build for three years (2000 to 2002) the 44mags was the most common and easier to find then the 1894cp (357 mag) .
