Without a doubt the Benelli has better quality than the Mosseberg. It's also easier to clean, can go longer between cleanings and is lighter in weight. The Mossberg is a decent gun for the money and you could do worse. Neither is a great choice for light target loads although the SBE II will cycle lighter field loads.

Remington 870 Express Synthetic (7 shot) Benelli Nova Tactical Synthetic. The Mossberg 590 A1 (#51663) is the best shotgun for under 500.The SXP is about $350 and the Nova is $400.
