Jeep yj fuel return line.
5 posts · Joined 2021. #1 · Jun 8, 2021. Hey yall! I was looking for some info on fuel line routing. I have a project Jeep. It's a 1990 Wrangler but the block numbers on the 258 say it's from the late 70s. Looks like its been swapped at some point with some nice headers, intake manifold, and carb. The problem though is the fuel lines.

If it's the line with your fuel filter, it's the pressurized side of the fuel system, if it's the other line it is the return line. If you test the fuel pressure at the fuel rail with a pressure tester it should read about 32 psi with the vacuum hoses all attatched, if it does indeed read ...New Evap Charcoal Canister from AC Delco. Bottom port is TANK input and connected to the line coming off top of the check valve. Top input is Purge and is connected to my air filter. Purge signal line coming from bottom of air filter. Hopefully this will generate enough vacuum to operate the evap canister properly.The factory fuel filter, was installed level horizontally at a height that was slightly higher than the inlet of the carb. It also had a hard-line with a loop in it, between the filter and the carb. This prevents fuel from draining back to the pump, and makes start-ups faster. The fuel return line on the factory filter serves 2 purposes.

Kept the original Peugeot manual tranny. Got a lot of obstacles to overcome (mainly wiring-don't have the donor XJ bulkhead harness) and the one that I am working on right now is the fuel delivery.

Please excuse my ignorance on the fuel system but is the fuel return line important? This is called an open loop system. Essentially look at your fuel filter. The drain line is on top, carb feed on bottom. A 89 yj with a 4.0 aw4 sye out of an 92xj. Now the hard part is done time to get it up in the air just a bit. The mechanical pump you currently have has worked well on a multitude of Jeeps and AMC and Mopar vehicles. The reason the manufacturer went to an electric pump was because of fuel injection. The return line is usually on the fuel pump or sometimes as on many chrysler type systems on the fuel filter itself. I suspect that if the weber is a low pressure design about 2 psi, the regulator will help.FWIW: Fuel injected motors run at between 50 and 75 psi. The pump is capable of well over that.
