If you banish the troupe the carefree melody will take grimmchild's place. It isn't possible to have both in one save file without mods or hacks. Regardless you need only 1 of the 2 to get 112%. Personally i recommend grimmchild not only for lore Reason but also because carefree melody is a contender for most useless charm in the game.

The second ending though allows you to fight a new boss, which in my opinion is the better choice. Or at least I'd say it's a better choice if I hadn't been dying to him for almost an hour now.

Nope. That's the point of banishing them. You skip out on fighting NKG and getting the highest tier Grimmchild charm, in exchange for that other charm that has a chance to save you from damage. At least Divine is kind enough to leave whatever charm you gave her without upgrading back in Dirtmouth.
