My only .223/5.56 rifle was a 1970s Ruger Mini-14. I hardly ever shot it. My favorites were the Garand, M1917 Enfield (mine was an Eddystone), and I liked the Swedish Mausers and Ljungman even better. The 6.5x55 was flatter over distance and would still be a formidable service cartridge.
