Federal hst 9mm 147 vs 124.

9mm – 124 gr JHP – Federal HST (P9HST1) – 1000 Rounds. This unique design prevents clogging (projectile expansion reduction) when traveling through barrier material (such as fabric), making sure the bullet still has an effective penetration. HST JHP ammo is safer because it slows down when traveling through something like drywall.

Jan 7, 2019 · 198 posts · Joined 2017. #1 · Jan 7, 2019. I have a question for the bullet gurus regarding federal HST: 124gr vs. 147gr. I've researched the 9mm HST line and have seen the reports, evaluations etc and know it is 1 of the premier SD rounds (in either weight). And I have shot several hundred rounds of the 147gr HST in both my G19s and P365 ... Sep 5, 2016 · Posted By: 65BR Federal HST 9mm - 124 vs 147 - 09/03/16. This round seems to have very high remarks for SD use in 9x19. I know they make standard and +P for each, I have seen results in tests showing larger expansion for the slower heavier 147. Also it shoots only about 50 fps different in two loadings, perhaps in a shorter barrel. 124 grain - moderate expansion, moderate penetration. 124 grain +P - big expansion, moderate penetration. 147 grain - less expansion (HSTs are better expanders at this weight though), more penetration. 147 grain +P - big (sometimes really big) expansion, moderate penetration. Personally, I favor standard pressure Federal HST in 147 grain. Each projectile in this box of 50 is a 124 grain HST jacketed hollow point leaves the barrel at 1,150 feet per second. Federal's HST projectiles are engineered to deliver near 100% weight retention through most barriers, as well as consistent expansion, penetration and fantastic terminal performance.Oct 11, 2013 · Usually most defensive rounds will show more recoil than mild target/practice loads. And a 124gr +P will exhibit more recoil than a standard pressure 147gr. Use a quality JHP that is LE proven from a major manufacturer that works well for you and your pistol. I favor the 147gr and carry the standard pressure Federal HST.

My experience with 124gr HST, in either standard pressure or +p, is that they are exceptionally accurate in Gen 5 Glocks. Like I was able to shoot a 3x5 card at 50 yards 3 out of 5 times freestyle with my Glock 19. Stupid levels of accuracy. In my Glock 45 I shot a 6" group at 100 yards.

Also some Russian steel and euro ammo feels about as warm Most 115gr American loaded 9mm is pretty weak. I don’t like the recoil impulse of 147. It’s not as snappy as 124 nato. I have heard a lot of people on various forums argue that 147 gr from any of the big 3 is the best bet since 147 gr loses the least % of velocity coming out of a short barrel, and that it will still expand while penetrating further than 124. · Which by the way is fairly hot as it is. If I could have only one for all my bbl lengths, it would be the 124gr HST. It's hard to find 147 gr range ammo. Practice with any standard pressure ammo will do. So practice with .115 gr, because thats the most common range ammo, & carry 147 is fine. The only problem is practice with standard pressure & carry plus P. Because of the velocity difference. This is best for guns with shorter barrels (ie conceal carry) vs the 147 grain standard pressure load. Either brand. I think Gold Dot tends to penetrate further and HSTs tend to get slightly larger expansion. I carry 124 grain HST, but honestly gold dots will work just as well.Sep 3, 2016 · The 124 gr. +P is very good for the 9mm but the 147 gr. seems to be even better.
