Do both the Raider and Settler Quest lines up to the quest "side with Crater/Foundation". Doing those gets you reputation without having to totally grind it.

The doors to the Vault 79 cave area will be closed and the keypad will not work for about 2 minutes . It seems to take that long for the game to load your personalized pin code for the door. You can do the Vault raid whenever you want, and probably the sooner the better so you can start collecting gold. Just do both factions quests until you get them both to the end and pick a side. You'll get a rep boost with whoever you pick, and no consequence for the other. 3. Sleepyweasel-jr.

The 3 options you have are: keep all the gold for yourself = 1000 gold reward and a minor reputation hit with the faction you are running the Vault raid with (about ~15-20% or so of the faction bar will attrition).
