As you add new tier of houses to represent later stages of the game, you could make the chair and fireplace fancier, and allow time to fast-forward 100% ... Word of advice: do NOT get too many villagers early on. Villagers are a liability until their skills improve. You're going to have to pick up the slack (preparing meals, making tools) until they've skilled a bit.
