I saw a Youtube-video on water reservoirs filling up when you are out of render, but looks like this has been patched. I made 10 test reservoirs and after two days, they are still sitting at 0 water.

Put the irrigation pipe into the water, thats the one that looks a bit like a crowbar. Then you use the inclined one to bring it just up a little bit so its above the ground. Then you set it up how you like. I recommend creating a pattern with the taps and the intersections so they cover a wide area with water irrigation.
