How to get the spare tire off a ford f150.
My '22 has one and I was actually disappointed it was there. The one on my 2013 froze up on me when I went to remove the raptor spare before sale. It was used no more than 2 years prior to that without issue. I had to crawl under the truck with a pick tool/screw driver and pry the clip off the "arm" so I could get the lock cylinder out.

Received 64 Likes on 49 Posts. Flip the spare so the shinny side is down and the result is the shiny surface will be sandblasted and chipped from the usual stuff on the highway. Drive on a dirt road and it will be very much worse. Just get a valve extension and leave it where Ford put it. Reply Like.

OP, what you had suggested is exactly what I would do. Take down, wire brush / wire wheel, spray with a good oil based paint (I like rustoleum), lace rim with oil based undercoating and re-install.
